'Providing high quality accurate education and expertise, using proven specialist knowledge to ensure the fitness of current and future generations'

Dr. Gary Mendoza

PhD., B.Sc.(Hons), RNutr

DYMONDstrength Associate Tutor

Gary started his career in the leisure industry in 1993 gaining a diploma in fitness and starting out as a personal trainer (PT). During this period he worked with many individuals helping them achieve their personal goals. Whilst working as a PT he studied human nutrition and achieved a first class honours degree in Applied Human Nutrition from the University of Wales. Gary then moved into training trainers and during this period developed a very successful nutrition and weight management course. This course formed the basis of his doctoral research. In 2006 Gary was awarded a PhD in nutrition, specialising in a multi-dimensional treatment for overweight and obese males. The weight loss course that he developed has been adopted in New Zealand by the Manawatu regional Health board as their treatment of choice and research undertaken by Gary in New Zealand demonstrated that the course works across all cultural backgrounds.

Gary’s other key area of interest is sports nutrition. Whilst lecturing in nutrition at Massey University in New Zealand Gary trained with Sports Dietitians Australia (SDA). He was programme leader for sports nutrition and advanced sports nutrition at Massey University. He has gained a wide range of experience in many different sports. In 2005-2006 he was the academy nutritionist for Nottingham Forest FC and he also worked with a commonwealth games weight-lifter during this period. Whilst in New Zealand he undertook work with Western netball teaching nutrition to aspiring Silver ferns (the NZ national netball team). He also worked with a national level swimmer and an international mountain biker. He is currently working closely with a professional cage fighter, as well as a national level mountain biker. Gary currently lectures in nutrition for sport and exercise at Bath Spa University and the University of Wales, Institute, Cardiff (UWIC).
