Barry Shillabeer currently works as the British Swimming Head of Strength and Conditioning and has worked with the top international performers for the last 8 years including a host of Olympic, World and Commonwealth medallists and record holders. This role included being the lead S&C coach into the Beijing Olympic and following World Championship and Commonwealth Games in Rome and Qatar. Back in 2007 Barry was targeted by UK Sport on the Advanced Practitioner Programme which led to UK Sport funded visits to US Olympic training sites in Colorado and San Diego. This was mixed in with some of America’s best college facilities in UCLA, University of Southern California and San Diego State University.
Barry has worked as a strength and conditioning coach for UK Athletics in the past working alongside the support team and training athletes who medalled in Commonwealth Games and European Championships. During this time he also worked with the Football Association and England Rugby supporting the 14 women athletes through their respective Championships over 2 ½ years.
Barry is UKSCA, NSCA and BSc qualified from Loughborough University and is currently undertaking an MSc, funded by the English Institute of Sport, due to be completed in 2012. Barry has also held the SAQ Diploma since 2004. His personal sporting background involves international volleyball honours and national diving honours at a junior level. Alongside his extensive international experience and his collaboration with other key sport science staff Barry has a great opportunity to add value to your sporting environment.
